Course Overview
Develops a basic knowledge of salary administration. Introduces wage and salary administration techniques including job analysis, job evaluation, compensation surveys, establishing and maintaining salary schedules, administering a salary plan; general and specific adjustments for promotions and demotions; and how to set up a simple plan. Contemporary issues such as pay compression, pay equity and confidentiality are addressed.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will have developed:
- Explain the strategic influence of the organization’s external and internal environments upon pay plan design.
- Explain the various economic, worker behaviour, labour market, labour union and legal constraints and their implications for compensation system design.
- Identify the strategic and process issues in compensation system design.
- Describe and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the most prevalent compensation plan designs currently in use.
- Carry out a job analysis, make use of common job evaluation methods and develop a pay structure and a budget for salaries.
- Analyze the effectiveness of compensation systems.
