Course Overview
This course identifies characteristics of different light sources with emphasis on residential applications and examines the fundamentals of lighting design. Students will learn the foundations of lighting design with the goal of having a working knowledge of functional and aesthetic lighting solutions. Characteristics of different light sources will be introduced and applications identified in class and through field trips. Residential reflected ceiling plans will be produced along with a lighting schedule.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognize the historical evolution of light sources and lamp types.
- Identify the theories that affect lighting design.
- Recognize the impact of light on human visual sense.
- Identify the effects of natural light in interior spaces.
- Evaluate the lighting of a space to determine character and mood.
- Apply ambient, task, accent, and sparkle lighting as layers within a residential interior.
- Produce a residential reflected ceiling plan and a lighting schedule.
