Course Details
In this course, students are introduced to the basics of fire alarm systems, their operation, and the correct method to conduct periodic inspections and tests. Completion of inspection reports will be covered, along with applicable Building Code and Fire Code requirements.
Prerequisite(s)
Fire 1050 or equivalent, or basic knowledge of electricity and electronics.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Both the Midterm and Final Exam will take place in-person at our Burnaby Campus (Location, date, and time TBD). Please ensure that you purchase your required course material/textbook from the Bookstore prior to the course start date (please allow extra time for delivery due to delays caused by COVID-19). Please bring a copy of "ULC Standard S536-13" to the first class to use as a course text. Describe fire alarm systems components, functions and operation.
Discuss codes, standards and regulations applying to fire alarm systems.
Identify and describe applicable inspection and test procedures.
Conduct inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
Complete appropriate documentation and reports.
