This course is designed for those interested in portable fire extinguisher maintenance. Students will learn the BC Fire Code requirements regarding inspection/ test/and recharge procedures. After successfully completing the course, students can apply to ASTTBC (Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC) to receive certification. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the four sides involved in fire chemistry.
- Identify the class of fire by type.
- Identify types of extinguishers and their operation.
- Select fire extinguishers for the applicable hazard.
- Describe the process of inspection as per applicable codes.
- Describe the relevance of, and the process of becoming ASTTBC certified for a fire protection technician.
- Describe how to perform annual maintenance.
- Identify hydrostatic testing code requirements
