Goal of SIG
To provide funding for workshops initiated at the department level for BCIT instructors (FSA and BCGEU) and staff, with the goal of enhancing teaching and learning
Who may apply
All BCIT employees (part-time or full-time) who are involved in teaching or teaching-related activities
Available funds
Applicants may request up to $2,500 for the fiscal year. The $2,500 maximum may be spent primarily on speaker fees, travel, accommodations, or workshop materials. Catering costs may also be considered as a minor component of the overall budget.
Note: An application must be completed and approved by the committee in advance of the event. The committee cannot approve funds for events that took place before the application was approved.
Selection criteria
We accept applications throughout the fiscal year on an ongoing basis. Grants are awarded within the budget on a first-come first-served basis provided the application fits the grant criteria:

- The workshop topic must lead to the enhancement of teaching and learning.
- The workshop must be at least one hour long.
- The event may take place in person or virtually. If in-person, it must take place at one of the BCIT campuses or at a location easily accessible to BCIT faculty and staff.
- Students, advisory committee members, industry contacts, clinical site workers, and other interested persons may be included.
- If the venue and event allow for more participants, you would be expected to extend a general invitation.
- You are expected to arrange the topic and presenter, time, and location.
Application Update
Special Interest Grant (SIG) funds have been allocated for the current 2025/2026 year. Applications are now closed.
We will offer new SIG funds beginning in the new fiscal year, in April 2026. Please wait to submit your applications until April 01, 2026. SIG funds are available on an ongoing basis throughout the year until funds are exhausted.

- Download and save the application form [PDF] to your computer.
- Complete the application and then e-mail it to develop@bcit.ca.
- Following the workshop, submit your receipts on Chrome River.
