Course Overview
Building on the fundamental knowledge and skills learned in BCST 1120 Video Production 1, this course provides participants with advanced knowledge of the components of television and video production and how they interrelate. On completion of BCST 2220 students will have an intermediate working knowledge of professional broadcast equipment such as cameras, switchers, microphones, audio mixers, and media servers. Through several projects, students will explore studio and field audio acquisition, lighting of studio and field productions including scenes/sets and products, and Electronic News Gathering / Electronic Field Production equipment. Students will plan and execute both live productions and electronic field productions and operate portable, studio, and control room production equipment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Plan, within a production team environment and with limited supervision, live and field productions.
- Execute, within a production team environment and under direct supervision, a short video field production.
- On an individual basis, independently plan and execute short video field productions to tell a story visually.
- Set-up, troubleshoot, and utilize professional broadcast video and audio equipment with limited supervision.
- Use basic lighting equipment to accomplish the desired lighting of a scene or product with limited supervision.
- Independently operate BCIT’s field production equipment to industry entry-level standards.
- Demonstrate strong inter-personal communication skills, commitment to a team, and shared responsibility for completion of team projects.
- Plan and execute short video field productions to tell a story visually, in collaboration with fellow team members.
