Course details

This career development course provides graduates from selected BCIT programs the opportunity to further develop their practical 'hands-on' workshop skills while creating approved projects. Projects must be approved by the instructor to ensure that they are safe and achievable using available resources. Students must supply all materials. Extra fees may apply if projects require sizeable amounts of consumables. Students will have access to Manual Mills, Manual Lathes, Drill Presses, Bandsaws, Grinders and Sanders, Sheetmetal Punches, Formers and Shears, Benders and Notchers, Arbor Presses, Forge, Welders, Plasma Cutters, Waterjet Cutter, Table Saw, Edge Router, Plastic Heat Formers, Composites Layup, Laser Cutter, 3-D Printer, Sandblaster, and Powder Coater.

Prerequisite(s)

  • BCIT Diploma of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, or Technology Teacher Education AND approved project proposal.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Safely use a variety of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Create projects from various materials using a wide range of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Work with increased proficiency in a workshop environment.
