Course Overview
This course leads the student through the steps of a research project. During the semester, student groups will choose a research topic or question, review the literature about the chosen topic, further refine the research question, define the research methodology, and draft a proposal. Students will examine ethical conduct in research and complete the TCPS-2 core course in research ethics.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Interpret principles of research ethics as outlined in the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS-2)
- Examine ethical considerations of health research, including consent and confidentiality.
- Critically review current literature to promote evidence-based practice and advancement in radiation therapy.
- Assess the role of evidence-based literature in developing and presenting protocols for clinical research.
- Evaluate the quality of research questions for focus, practicality, and relevance to radiation therapy practice.
- Evaluate differences between quantitative and qualitative research designs and their appropriateness for specific research questions.
- Critically analyze existing literature to formulate a focused and practical research question that is relevant to radiation therapy practice.
- Design a practical research methodology to explore the research question, focusing on justifying study design and data collection methods.
- Justify selection of appropriate statistical tests for data analysis.
- Discuss limitations of the proposed research project and recommend evidence-based directions for future research.
- Participate in effective information exchange to facilitate knowledge translation between peers, colleagues and/or supervisors.
- Demonstrate professional communication, collaboration, and shared responsibility during group-based research activities.
