Course Overview
This course teaches the basic skills necessary to carry out common maintenance tasks in a power plant. This course takes a very hands-on approach with plenty of time devoted to completing shop projects, including welding, lathe operation, drilling and tapping holes, soldering, electrical wiring, precision measurements, and pump maintenance.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify and state the use of various construction hand tools.
- Describe the care and maintenance of hand tools.
- Demonstrate the use of basic hand tools.
- Demonstrate the use of layout, measuring, and testing tools used by power engineers.
- Describe all safety procedures to be followed while using hand and power tools.
- Describe shop safety equipment.
- Describe the correct lifting techniques for moving various objects.
- Identify all fixtures and safe procedures for using the equipment.
- Assemble, light, adjust, shutdown, and disassemble oxy-acetylene equipment.
- Demonstrate cutting and gas welding.
