Course Overview
In this course, students are introduced to the basics of fire alarm systems, their operation, and the correct method to conduct periodic inspections and tests. Completion of inspection reports will be covered, along with applicable Building Code and Fire Code requirements.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have a basic, working understanding of:
- Describe fire alarm systems components, functions and operation.
- Discuss codes, standards and regulations applying to fire alarm systems.
- Identify and describe applicable inspection and test procedures.
- Conduct inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
- Complete appropriate documentation and reports.

- No class on May 18, 2026 (Victoria Day). Completion of FIRE 1050, FIRE 2077, and FIRE 2080, as well as having applied for ASTTBC EM and WA Discipline, and a minimum of six months of current Canadian experience as a fire protection junior technician or helper, are required. Students are responsible for ensuring they have completed all required prerequisites or their equivalents before registering. Those who do not meet mandatory prerequisites will be removed without notice. Registration is first come, first served, and notifications of course cancellation will be issued five business days before the start date.
