Essential Knowledge in Welding Qualifications WELD 1260

This course is part of a series of online, self-paced courses, which aim to give essential knowledge in areas related to welding and welding quality management aimed at engineers, technologists, purchasers and other professionals who work in the fabrication and manufacturing industry. This course does not have a practical component (if you are interested in learning to weld please see WELD 0102 our introduction to welding course ). The course could also be taken by welders who are wanting to upgrade their understanding of welding processes as they move into a welding management position. Welding is typically specified by reference to a welding standard. There are many different welding standards in use around the world, and although they have differences, the standard framework for these welding standards is consistent. Key elements that are usually addressed include the roles and responsibilities for all parties involved, identification and control of base materials and welding consumables, drawings and identification of welds (using welding symbols), qualification of welding procedures, qualification of welders, and inspection and quality control. In this course, we will look at each of these components without reference to any specific standard, giving a general understanding of the things that are normally addressed. We will then take a deeper look at the process of welding procedure and welder qualification.​​
