Course Overview
This course introduces the common financial and managerial practices of business. Topics include: the economy, time value of money, economic decision analysis, labour relations, safety management and decision making.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss key economic indicators and how they affect business. [7, 11]
- Compute present/future value of a single payment, multiple cash flows, and annuities. [7, 11]
- Perform cost analysis of competing proposals based on their projected cash flows. [7, 11]
- Rank investment proposals using payback, NPV, and IRR methods. [7, 11]
- Use spreadsheet software (Excel) as a tool in performing an economic analysis. [7, 11]
- Understand the requirements of the BC Employment Standards Act. [7, 8, 9]
- Describe the role of the provincial Workers Compensation Board. [7, 8, 9]
- Discuss the responsibilities of managers and supervisors for workplace safety. [7, 8, 9]
- Understand basic financial statements. [7, 11]
- Discuss current trends in the decision making process. [7, 11]
