Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Adhere to relevant provincial and federal legislation and regulations. (2.1a)
• Adhere to relevant professional scope of practice, code of ethics, and institutional policies and procedures. (2.1b, 2.1c)
• Demonstrate awareness of professional liability. (2.3m)
• Comply with requirements of the provincial regulatory body, including applicable Standards of Practice and sexual abuse prevention guidelines. (2.1d)
• Identify the importance of consistently managing time and workload efficiently, maintaining a clean and orderly work area, critically appraising performance, and setting goals for self-improvement. (2.3g, 2.4a, 6.1a)
• Recognize hazardous conditions and adverse events in the work area; disclose and respond accordingly. (2.3l, 6.1b)
• Given a scenario, evaluate clinical behaviours related to patient informed consent, negligence of care, and patient right to privacy.
• Describe how to find information at each worksite on fire and disaster plans, as well as where to locate emergency equipment. (6.1c, 6.1d)
• Recognize the need for a chaperone, when to ask for guidance, and determine the need for additional personnel to assist in the examination. (2.2e, 2.3k, 3.1g)
• Practice within the limits of personal knowledge, skill, and judgment. (2.2d)
• Demonstrate how to share knowledge with patients, patient's relatives, colleagues, students, and other members of the health care team. (2.3j, 2.3e, 1.1i, 1.1j)
• Using CompTracker, create and explain the use of evaluation forms in the clinical environment.
• Demonstrate awareness of the need for continuing professional development. (2.4c)
• Using student-led presentations, describe current and emerging issues in health care relevant to the practice of sonography. (2.3n)
• Follow standardized procedures for handling and disposing of sharps and contaminated and biohazardous materials. (6.2d)
• Accept responsibility for decisions and actions. (2.2i)
