Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Solve problems related to the complete balancing of reciprocating machinery.
- Solve problems involving simple harmonic motion and vibrations.
- Calculate the stress in metal bars due to restricted thermal expansion.
- Calculate stresses set up in compound bars.
- Calculate hoop and axial stress in pressure vessels.
- Calculate the stress in the rim of a rotating flywheel.
- Derive the fundamental torsion equation and solve problems related to the twisting of shafts, using the fundamental torsion equation.
- Calculate torque and power transmitted through shafts and coupling bolts using the torsion equation.
- Solve problems involving Rapson's slide.
- Calculate the volume flow of fluids through valves, pipes, and orifices based on the area of the orifice, flow velocity, mass flow rate, and flow coefficients.
