Course details
A+ Certified Technicians possess knowledge and skills essential for employment as computer service technicians. This course utilizes the hardware and software technologies used in today's workplace and aligns with the topics examined in the A+ certification exam. The course includes lab activities in which students work with computer hardware and operating systems software to develop troubleshooting skills, assemble and configure computers, add peripherals, connect to networks and customize the operation of the computer. Students are expected to have working knowledge of computers. Students must have access to a Windows based multi-media computer.

This course will be delivered using a HYBRID MODEL which will incorporate both in-person and online learning. Students will be required to attend at the BCIT Burnaby Campus in building SE01 Room 208 on the first day of class. The instructor will then present students with the full schedule which will show both in-person and online lecture dates. Before the course begins, please visit learn.bcit.ca, select CITX 1100, and check the News Items on the home page of the course for information from your instructor. This course is part of the Network Administrator Technician - Associate Certificate and can also be taken as a stand-alone course. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the functions of the hardware components of a computer.
- Replace components to repair and upgrade computers.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues on a personal computer.
- Configure networking parameters to establish network connectivity.
- Install and provide basic configuration of a Windows operating system.
- Troubleshoot computer problems within a Windows environment.
- Describe procedures for adding and removing peripheral devices in a Windows environment.
