Course Overview
Explore the future of clean energy through the lens of electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling and sustainability. In this hands-on course, students investigate lithium-ion battery composition, recovery techniques, and lifecycle assessment (LCA) methods. Learners gain practical experience in lab-based material processing and analyze real-world industry strategies. Designed for those in chemical engineering, environmental science, and clean energy sectors, this course empowers students to contribute to the circular economy and sustainable technology innovation.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the chemical composition and failure mechanisms of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles.
- Apply hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical techniques to recover critical metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel from battery waste.
- Conduct electrochemical testing and evaluate battery materials using lifecycle assessment (LCA) tools.
- Analyze the environmental and economic impacts of battery recycling within the context of circular economy principles.
- Design and present sustainable battery recycling strategies based on real-world industry case studies and lab-based experimentation.
