Course Overview
Students will continue to develop and practice their patient care and technical skills under the supervision of the radiation therapists. During this 12-week clinical practicum students are scheduled to a variety of treatment and planning units in the radiation therapy department. Students will practice and perform multi-field and brachytherapy techniques for evaluation of competency. They will provide all required information to new patients, i.e. skin care, full bladder, etc. and explain possible reactions and care of reactions to patients.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Participate in procedures for radiation therapy techniques in planning, teletherapy and brachytherapy.
- Perform competently in positioning and problem solving for a variety of complex radiation therapy techniques.
- Relate the effects of therapeutic doses of radiation on normal tissue to reactions and side effects of radiation therapy treatment.
- Demonstrate competency in providing patients with care plans to address the physical effects of radiation therapy while incorporating psycho-emotional, cultural and other health issues of cancer patients.
- Perform patient treatments/planning by safely using the console and record & verify systems.
- Perform effectively within the radiation therapy team.
- Monitor their own learning needs in order to seek out further practice or assistance.
