Course Overview
The Chemistry 11 Challenge Exam allows students to demonstrate the required chemistry knowledge and skills at the British Columbia grade 11 level. It covers material related to the topics of matter, mole concept, chemical reactions, atomic theory, solution chemistry and organic chemistry. Please refer to the Chemistry 11 entrance requirement set by the Program for which you are applying to determine the minimum grade you need from this challenge exam.

- ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY AND READ IN FULL BEFORE REGISTERING ** This exam will be WRITTEN IN PERSON at the Burnaby campus. The CHEM 0110 exam fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and MUST BE PAID AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. Non-payment of the exam fee upon registration will result in the student being dropped from the exam writing without prior notice. The CHEM 0110 exam passing grade is 50%. Students should review their program entrance requirements to determine the minimum acceptable exam grade. Students will be allowed to rewrite the exam once, for a maximum of two total writings (lifetime). There will be NO exceptions. Students who choose to rewrite the exam must register and pay the exam fee that applies to the advertised exam date chosen for the rewrite. Students are required to bring to the exam writing: (1) one piece of valid photo identification (a BCIT Student ID Card, Driver’s License, BC Services Card or Passport), (2) a printed exam registration/exam fee payment receipt from my.bcit.ca -> Student Self Service menu or from BCIT's Registration department (3) a non-programmable scientific calculator (phones and computers are NOT allowed), (4) pen/pencil and eraser. Students will not be permitted to write the exam without the required documentation and the exam fee will be forfeited. Students must arrive at the exam room at least 15 minutes prior to exam start time for ID and exam registration/exam fee payment verification. To obtain information pertaining to the topics tested download the curriculum on the following website - curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/science/11/chemistry. This exam is paper-based, the maximum time allowed to write the exam is 3 hours. Data Tables provided with the exam are: Periodic Table, Electronegativity Table, Activity Series, Solubility Tables. The student's exam grade will be available online through my.bcit.ca -> Student Self Service menu in the Check grades section within 2 weeks following the exam writing date. CHEM 0110 does not provide any instructor support prior to the exam writing. Students that are looking for a Chemistry 11 refresher course can register in CHEM 0108 which includes review materials and an online tutorial prior to the exam date.
