The only of its kind in British Columbia, BCIT's Advanced Certificate in Emergency Nursing program educates registered nurses (RNs) from all over the world in emergency nursing. Our hands-on learning, clinical experiences, and expert faculty give you the skills employers seek.
This highly niched program prepares you to work in the fast-paced, dynamic emergency care environment. No two shifts are the same, with patients who change constantly and have many different reasons for needing emergency care. The program offers post RNs either an Advanced Certificate in Emergency Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Specialty Nursing. Nurses may bridge out after 27 credits to obtain an Advanced Certificate in Emergency Nursing, or continue and complete 33 more credits for a total of 60 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Specialty Nursing.
For nurses with a shared interest in both Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, BCIT offers combined programs.
Combined Emergency/Critical Care Option - designed for nurses who work in a community or rural hospital and spend the majority of their time working in the emergency department with some responsibilities in the intensive care unit.
Combined Critical Care/Emergency Option - designed for nurses who work in a community hospital and spend the majority of their time is working in the intensive care unit with some responsibilities in the emergency department.

Looking to get your BSN? Use your advanced certificate toward completing our Bachelor of Science, Specialty Nursing degree.
Beginning in 2018, BCIT Specialty Nursing Advanced Certificate Graduates can apply to receive six units of block transfer credit (equal to one third of the coursework) towards the online, two-year UVIC Master of Nursing program. Applicants can chose from the Advanced Practice Leadership of Nurse Educator options.
