Course Details

Apply best practices in user interface (UI) design and user experience (UX) to create a design prototype. Learn technical tips and tricks and to apply the technical workflow of UI and UX using current design tools such as Adobe XD, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Working on applied projects to identify key user needs, students work individually and in groups to develop design decisions that inform a web or app user interface prototype development. Students are assessed through a combination of individual assignments and a group project.

  1. This is not a self-paced course. You will be expected to be available and online on the posted days and times shown on your registration schedule. It is important you have a stable and consistent internet connection to access course content. Course content, type and quality of assignments, and general standards for this online course are the same as classroom courses. To be successful in this online course, plan to spend 7-10 hours per week on your studies, or more of it’s a condensed course, starting Week 1. System Requirements are: Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) version 1809 or later [OR] Apple® macOS® 10.13, 10.14 or later (64-bit Intel-based) Processor: 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor with SSE4.2 instruction set Memory: 8 GB minimum, 16 GB or higher recommended (32 GB for 4K media or higher) Graphics: NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 or equivalent; NVidia GeForce GTX 1660 or Quadro T1000 is recommended [OR] AMD Radeon Pro 555X or higher S[OR] Intel UHD Graphics 630 or higher Storage: 250GB SSD or higher Monitor: 1920 x 1080 or higher Internet: Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services Important course information will be sent to your myBCIT account prior to your course start date.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the use of Adobe XD, Photoshop and Illustrator integrated to plan, design and deploy a Web or App prototype.
  • Demonstrate the use of Adobe XD, Spark and other Adobe tools to share safely and collaborate remotely.
  • Recognize and apply the use of images, UI libraries (icons, control and navigation visuals packs) for the design of user interfaces for web and mobile.
  • Follow principles and guidelines based on UX research, typography for interactive media and colour theory to select the most effective typefaces for a given prototype.
  • Recognize and understand the limitations of the Adobe design applications' features against other UI and UX design tools used by industry.
