Interior Design Part-time Studies Course

Course Details

​The focus of this course is to explore and further develop design ideation. Visual communication of concepts and details within interior spaces will be examined. Hands-on exploration, quick sketching, and analysis involving the documentation of the design process will be demonstrated in a sketchbook format through a variety of mediums and techniques. Field trips will be used for on-site inspiration and exploration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explore various drawing media such as ink, pencil crayon, and marker.
  • Apply colour and texture to represent various materials and finishes.
  • Practice quick freehand sketches of interior spaces and components to articulate design ideas and direction.
  • Incorporate the elements and principles of design to create well-composed layouts.
  • Produce scaled two-dimensional freehand sketches of plans, elevations and sections with attention to line quality showing depth and detail.
  • Explore techniques to develop freehand perspective and axonometric sketches.
  • Analyse design solutions in order to refine them using the elements and principles of design.
  • Visually communicate a variety of interior elements such as fireplaces, millwork, doors, windows & lighting.
  • Document the design processes of interior design projects in a sketchbook/journal
