Course Overview
This course thoroughly examines topics related to the study of the human body. The course will start with an introduction to the organization of the human body, covering the basics of cytology, histology, and fundamental organic chemistry. It will then follow a systems approach to study the relationship between structure and function of the human body. Every body system will be covered, including the nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive and integumentary systems. The importance of interactions between organ systems to maintain homeostasis will be emphasized throughout the course. This is a blended learning course, using a combination of online and classroom instruction. While this course will focus on an understanding of normal anatomy and physiology, physiological factors in disease processes will be introduced to apply the learned concepts and to prepare students for future studies in the field of Health Sciences.
Prerequisite(s)
- Chemistry 11 is recommended.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognize the relationship between structure and function at the cellular, tissue and organ level of organization.
- Identify the structure and organization of the body’s principal organ systems.
- Relate each organ system’s structure to it’s major functions.
- Identify homeostasis as the overall result of integrated functioning of the body’s organ systems.
- Apply anatomical features and physiological concepts to health-related and medical situations.
