Course Details

The Biology 12 Challenge Exam addresses topics related to the general principles of human body structure and function based on the British Columbia Biology 12 Curriculum. It covers material related to the chemical organization of the human body, DNA and its function, cells and membrane function, and the structure and function of the following organ systems: digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, renal / urinary and reproductive. This exam is offered to applicants to Programs in the BCIT School of Health Sciences requiring Biology 12. Please refer to the Biology 12 entrance requirement set by the Program for which you are applying to determine the minimum grade.


Biology 12 or an acceptable equivalent course.

  1. **IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Challenge exam will be taken ONLINE AT THE START TIME POSTED and does not require students to come to campus. Detailed instructions will be emailed prior to exam writing date. The exam instructor will communicate with students via BCIT’s Learning Hub therefore it is important to sign in prior to the exam date to review any messages posted. Exam is designed for those well versed in the topics covered in BC Biology 12 curriculum and who previously scored a mark equivalent to or exceeding mark required by their program of choice. There are no study materials or instructor support provided in preparation for exam. Please review the information (link) that outlines the material tested. Page 19 & 20 for summary Page 45-74 for detailed descriptions. The exam is 115 multiple choice questions and can ONLY be taken once (lifetime). If a student registers and writes this exam a second time, the mark from their first attempt will be used. Mark will be submitted to Student Records and appropriate Admissions Officer upon completion and before program closing deadline. Follow up instructions will be e-mailed prior to exam writing date.
