Entrance Requirements

Please note: The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) course offerings have been temporarily suspended, including the BCIT NDT Math Skills Exam. Please check back next term or subscribe for updates. Students who are eligible to complete written or practical exams can contact Selina Li at ndt@bcit.ca to make exam bookings. Please note that an admittance form from NRCan is required in order for a written or practical examination to be reserved.

Prior to taking any of the NDT methods courses, students are required to complete NDTE 1155 Materials and Processes and pass the NRCan Materials and Processes (M&P) examination (examination is included in the course). Current and previously certified personnel are considered to have met the M&P prerequisites.

Basic mathematical knowledge including how to use a scientific calculator, algebra, logarithms and trigonometry is required for all courses. For all methods courses, students are required to pass the BCIT NDT Math Skills exam. Students with previous post-secondary math training may apply for exemption.

NOTE: Passing mark for all Non-Destructive Testing courses and the Prerequisite Exams: Materials & Process and Math Skills is 70%.

BCIT Flexible Learning (formerly Part-time Studies) courses are taught assuming that registrants have a BC Grade 12 level of English and proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

BCIT has several upgrading courses for students who wish to improve their English language skills.
