Overview
About this program
The Hydrogen Awareness Microcredential provides learners with a practical introduction to hydrogen as a clean energy carrier and its role in the low-carbon transition. Through courses in fundamentals and in safety, storage, and infrastructure, students gain both core knowledge and applied insight into hydrogen technologies.
Learners will explore production methods, storage and distribution systems, and key safety considerations, while developing the ability to interpret Canadian and international codes and standards. Real-world case studies are used to connect theory with current industry practices.
By the end of the program, students will be able to assess hydrogen technologies, apply basic safety principles, and communicate key concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. This microcredential supports career development in the growing hydrogen sector while helping industry build a safety-aware and knowledgeable workforce.
Who it’s for
This microcredential is designed for students and professionals interested in working jobs within hydrogen and clean energy industries. It is well suited for those in engineering, technology, and applied sciences who want to build foundational knowledge, as well as early-career professionals or technicians looking to upskill or transition into the hydrogen sector. It is also relevant for individuals in sustainability, policy, or project roles who need a practical understanding of hydrogen technologies, safety, and infrastructure. A basic background in science or engineering is helpful, but no prior experience in hydrogen is required.
What grads can do
Graduates of this microcredential will be able to understand and communicate key hydrogen energy concepts, evaluate production, storage, and infrastructure options, and apply basic safety principles and risk mitigation strategies in hydrogen systems. They will be prepared to support hydrogen-related projects, interpret relevant codes and standards, and contribute to the safe and sustainable deployment of hydrogen technologies across energy, transportation, and industrial sectors.
