Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate written materials — their own and others' — to ensure clarity, conciseness, and correctness at the sentence and paragraph levels.
- Apply structural and visual design strategies to enhance the accessibility and readability of documents.
- Achieve a positive, persuasive, and reader-oriented tone across various types of professional communication.
- Critically read and assess professional literature to extract and synthesize key information.
- Write clear, effective instructions and descriptions tailored to diverse audiences.
- Compose and refine professional emails for a range of purposes, such as requests, replies, and patient communication, adapting tone and structure to suit the context and audience.
- Respond to potentially uncomfortable situations using indirect messaging strategies, both verbally and in writing.
- Verbally summarize their own projects with clarity, develop confidence in delivering verbal reports, and integrate natural storytelling techniques to engage their audience.
- Produce concise, well-structured progress reports that clearly articulate the development of their capstone projects.
- Prepare for job applications by analyzing job ads, tailoring resumes to align with employer expectations, and developing skills for informational and professional interviews.
