Course Overview
The Sonography Capstone course is an online course that begins with an opportunity for students to learn about various medical research and papers relevant to Sonography. Students will have the opportunity to develop and apply core competencies and inter-professional collaboration during writing assignments throughout the course. Students will build their critical thinking skills through evaluating a case study, evaluating sources of information, and executing a critical analysis of a literature review. The course will culminate in the creation of a final group project as students work collaboratively to choose a sonography-related topic and write an academic paper of journal quality. Students are expected to understand what constitutes academic integrity, including avoidance of plagiarism and maintaining confidentiality.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate professional behaviour in accordance with BCIT plagiarism policies, Sonography Canada code of ethics and organizational confidentiality policies.
- Apply critical thinking skills through interpretation and integration of theoretical knowledge during case scenario analysis, critical analysis self-critique, while presenting a case study, analyzing published literature and creating a capstone project.
- Review professional literature and assess relevance to practice (2.4b).
- Demonstrate an awareness of current and emerging issues and technologies in Sonography by researching, analyzing, citing and creating relevant Sonography related literature (2.3o).
- Demonstrate effective and accurate written communication using academic writing and Vancouver Style citation formatting.
- Establish an awareness of continued professional development by designing a literature review paper and quiz.
- Demonstrate an understanding of research ethics in writing by critically analyzing published literature and preparing a paper of academic integrity.
- Establish collaboration, time management and organization skills by producing written material in groups.
