Course Overview
This course introduces the fundamentals of project management including development approaches and activities and tools used at various stages of a project. The course covers the full project lifecycle and provides an opportunity to apply a range of management methods necessary to deliver value. Projects are unique and uncertain environments. Managing this uncertainty and tailoring the project approach is critical to a successful project. The course is consistent with the Project Management Body of Knowledge and the Standard for Project Management.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Project environment
- Describe project characteristics, project management practices and guiding principles.
- Explain the importance of organizational structures and culture and their impacts on managing project teams and delivering project value.
Initiating
- Apply common project frameworks such as adaptive (agile) and predictive (waterfall) and their uses.
- Use project screening, selection and governance methods.
- Construct a Project Charter.
Planning
- Define stakeholder value and deliverable requirements.
- Develop scope, schedules and budget for both predictive and iterative projects using appropriate tools (WBS, Network diagram, user stories and product backlog)
- Plan resource utilization and apply resource leveling.
- Apply risk management and quality planning.
Delivery
- Explain the importance of managing the release of work to a project team.
- Create project tracking and measurement systems.
- Demonstrate techniques to analyze and control project performance.
- Apply risk management, problem solving and quality management techniques.
Closing
- Explain the role of project governance processes in closing out projects.
- Describe project closing activities.
- Evaluate project team performance using lessons learned.

- Apply project management techniques using project management software.
