Professional growth is explored from personal, professional, and historical perspectives. Students choose a focus for growth which is fostered by ongoing critical reflection and journaling. Relational practice is explored through the lenses of mentoring and harmful workplace relationships. Contemporary trends in ethical practice are examined, including the contextual influences on practice; the development of moral identity; and the enhancement of moral integrity. An anticipated trajectory for professional development is envisioned and described.

Upon successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Develop a personal plan for your professional growth.
  • Build personal resiliency through improved self-awareness.
  • Support professional growth in others through the practice of precepting, coaching and mentoring.
  • Explain the impact of workplace violence on employees.
  • Develop strategies for dealing with violence in the workplace.
  • Explain the importance of interprofessional collaborative practice in healthcare practice.
  • Determine appropriate action for a morally distressing situation in practice using an ethical decision-making framework.
  • Develop your personal vision and mission statements.
  • Set achievable goals for professional growth within a 5 year personal action plan.
