Course Overview
This course is open to anyone interested in exploring and pursuing a career in nursing. This course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to nursing through a combination of theoretical and practical learning opportunities. Students will be introduced to the profession of nursing and the healthcare environment while developing the academic skills that are necessary for post-secondary success. This course provides an introduction to professionalism and communication in healthcare, medical terminology, nursing care, the healthcare environment, and quality and safety. It also introduces concepts of respect, diversity, and inclusivity. This 36 hour course is delivered in person, offering hands-on experience in a lab/simulation setting.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the roles, responsibilities, ethical principles, and professional expectations of nurses within healthcare systems.
- Explore verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams while ensuring cultural safety.
- Explain and explore cultural safety in both nursing practice and the healthcare environment.
- Discover basic key concepts of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to nursing practice.
- Practice some fundamental nursing skills, including vital sign assessment, and infection control.
- Compare normal and abnormal health indicators.
- Engage in clinical simulations and problem-solving scenarios to develop critical thinking and clinical reasoning in patient care situations.
- Identify various nursing career pathways and post-secondary education options to support informed decision-making about future career goals.
