Course Overview
Students will complete a team project that involves preparing and presenting a technical report on a mining project. This report will be centered around an actual mineral deposit/property and will integrate student-collected field and laboratory data with additional project information provided to the students. Topics to be studied may include aspects of deposit geology, exploration methods, resource estimates, mine planning and design, mineral processing, site assessment and layout, environmental sustainability, community engagement, project cost estimates and economics. Each team is responsible for the preparation of a succinct, well-written, and technically accurate project report. Teams will also complete an oral presentation and discussion of their study results.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Work as members of a team preparing, presenting, and discussing a technical report on a mining project.
- Demonstrate teamwork, project management and research skills.
- Apply interdisciplinary knowledge to solve complex engineering problems.
- Demonstrate engineering knowledge while applying the concepts of health and safety, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.
- Interpret the geology and describe the mineral potential of a mining project.
- Create and execute a field plan for a mining project site visit.
- Design mine and site layouts for a mining project.
- Evaluate the economics of a mining project.
