Course Overview
Introduces the field of occupational health and safety for operations managers. Examines a broad range of safety topics and provides opportunity to participate in the application of several safety functions such as an inspection, accident investigation and safety committee meetings. Discusses the requirements for a successful safety program integrated into the company business plan; at the same time explores the legal, economic and humanistic reasons for doing so. Covers additional topics including WHMIS, lock-out, confined spaces, workers' compensation, fire protection, and due diligence.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Apply the principles of accident prevention to daily business planning and operations.
- Explain the function of Workers Compensation Systems, and particularly the WCB of BC.
- Actively participate on a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Outline the requirements for effective fire prevention and protection.
- Apply the requirements of Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS) to an industrial setting.
- Actively participate in worksite safety inspections, and accident investigations.
- Apply the principles of WCB Claims Management to effectively administer accident claims.
- Outline the requirements for a basic accident prevention program.
- Apply the principles of 'Due Diligence' as they relate to legal and moral expectations, as well as employer and personal obligations and liability.
