Course details

Measuring and reporting on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance is at the heart of sustainable business. This course introduces students to global sustainability reporting frameworks, standards and regulations. The course covers how an organization determines its material impacts and measures and reports on its ESG performance. The course explores current impact reporting methods and how organizations embed measurement and reporting into their day-to-day operations and disclose key material information to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.​

Prerequisite(s)

  • Acceptance into the Sustainable Business Advanced Certificate, Sustainable Business Leadership Advanced Diploma, or Bachelor of Business Administration program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the evolution and emerging trends in reporting
  • Assess reporting of sustainable business practices
  • Interpret and compare voluntary and regulatory standards: ISSB, GRI, SASB, TCFD, IR
  • Interpret and compare impact reporting frameworks UN SDGs and B Corp
  • Discuss the challenges and opportunities of collecting / interpreting data
  • Compare and critique reporting standards, methods, calculations, recommendations and limitations
  • Calculate and account for Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions using the GHG Protocol
  • Understand how to prepare disclosures in response to stakeholder demands
