This course provides the foundation for GIS students to approach programming problems in an intuitive, realistic and logical fashion. Students use the latest IDEs to develop programs that manipulate GIS data and implement GIS concepts. This course covers such additional topics as arrays, complex data structures and file output.

Prerequisite: This course is for students with no programming experience, but must have the ability to effectively manage files and directories under Windows. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Create form and console applications using an Interactive Development Environment (IDE).
- Use both simple and complex variables to store and retrieve GIS related data.
- Implement decision control structures.
- Implement looping control structure to solve both iterative and non-iterative problems.
- Implement file IO with GIS data.
- Demonstrate the use of common classes and controls.
- Develop solutions using the programming problem solving process.
