Course Overview
This course provides students with the skills to support end users with their computers and operating systems. Students will diagnose hardware and operating systems, assemble computers, add peripherals, configure network settings, and implement basic system security. Students will learn about tools built into operating systems (OS) used to manage and monitor the computer. The primary focus is on the Windows OS; however, students will also be introduced to Linux, Mac, and mobile operating systems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the hardware components of a computer
- Describe the functions of an operating system
- Install and configure a Windows operating system
- Employ built-in Windows tools to monitor and manage a computer
- Activate basic security features on a Windows computer
- Troubleshoot issues with Windows and the hardware it is running on
- Describe procedures for adding and removing peripherals with Windows
- Configure printer settings including networked printers and print servers
- Install components to build, repair, or upgrade a personal computer
- Customize the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) settings, and demonstrate different boot options
- Load an operating system into a virtual machine
- Demonstrate general knowledge of mobile, OS X, and Linux operating systems
- Describe the construction of a laptop and how to upgrade the RAM, hard disk, and firmware
- Explain the roles and responsibilities of the IT professional
