Course Overview
This course covers cybersecurity principles and applications relevant to healthcare technology management. The course reviews key network concepts, such as network hardware, OSI model, network protocols, and network addresses with particular emphasis on the cybersecurity devices and services needed to protect medical device networks. This course is suitable for those who work with networked medical devices, namely healthcare technology management or biomedical engineering professionals, who need to safeguard their medical devices, patient information, and organization data from cyberattacks.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe cybersecurity fundamental concepts and terminologies.
- Explain how healthcare cybersecurity regulations and standards, such as HIPAA and IEC80001-1:2021 are applied to secure medical devices and networks.
- Apply cybersecurity help resources, such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework and ECRI guidelines, to protect healthcare systems and medical devices from cyber attack.
- Evaluate common cybersecurity vulnerabilities and threats in healthcare environments.
- Utilize network tools to carry out basic network troubleshooting, including connectivity and configuration.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices to secure medical devices and data from cyberattack.
- Write incident response and recovery plans for cybersecurity events in healthcare technology systems.
- Discuss the responsibilities of biomedical engineering professionals in securing medical device networks.
