Course Overview
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the critical role crime and intelligence analysis play in court proceedings, focusing on the presentation and admissibility of analytical products. Emphasis is placed on the admissibility of forensic evidence prepared by crime analysts, with a secondary focus on the use of intelligence products in criminal cases. The course topics will cover a range of reports, including profiles, association charts, event flow charts, commodity/money flow charts, communications analysis, financial crime analysis, and threat assessments. The course examines effective methods for presenting work products in court developed through evidence collection, evaluation, collation, and analysis. Students will collaborate as part of an investigative team to prepare and present their analytical products in court, with particular attention to best practices for defending their findings in legal proceedings.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Assess the factors that influence the admissibility and evidentiary weight of crime analysis evidence and intelligence analysis in criminal trials.
- Generate charts, maps, graphs and written reports that meet that threshold for use in court based on the collection, evaluation, collation and analysis of forensic evidence.
- Apply the essential note-taking techniques to support the preparation of crime analysis products
- Write curriculum vitae to demonstrate qualifications as a professional witness.
- Deliver effective, honest, and fair testimony on the witness stand in relation to the crime analysis products you created during an investigation.
