Course details

​A strong brand builds equity perceived by a target audience. Corporate communications are the means by which a company's strategy, structure and vision are clarified. These business strategies are the framework of design strategies for the myriad of internal and external communications necessary in business today. Students will build and strengthen a brand message by applying a visual language across a range of corporate identity applications (logo lock-ups, corporate typography and colour, and other design assets).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Research and analyze communication strategies to discover what makes them successful/unsuccessful.
  • (Continue to) build a visual strategy that conveys a client-focused message in a consistent manner.
  • Demonstrate how the visual strategy meets communication objectives.
  • Employ a design audit to research specific communication needs.
  • Draft a corporate communications plan to correspond to the design audit findings.
  • Apply a brand identity to specific communication aims such as increasing/retaining public awareness, retaining staff and employees, company growth through an increase in sales, etc.
  • Demonstrate how various communication tools convey distinct messaging.
  • Explain the messaging needs/differences between internal and external communications in a company.
  • Expand the company's corporate visual language and prepare visual standards for these applications.
