Course Overview
Students will continue to develop and practice their patient care and technical skills under the supervision of the radiation therapists. During this clinical practicum students are scheduled to treatment and planning units to further obtain different experiences in the radiation therapy department. Students will practice and perform basic and intermediate radiation therapy techniques as well as new patient information for evaluation of competency.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Comply with BC Cancer / PHSA policies and procedures for safe and professional conduct including applicable Standards of Practice.
- Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct by practicing within personal scope of competence, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, and upholding the dignity, privacy, and autonomy of all patients.
- Demonstrate professional practice that aligns with the provincial scope of practice and adheres to all relevant federal and provincial legislation and regulations.
- Provide care in a culturally safe manner.
- Ensure ongoing informed consent to procedures.
- Demonstrate the attributes of a health care professional necessary to relate to patients and staff in a courteous and responsible manner.
- Apply knowledge of the natural history of neoplastic disease to the use of radiation therapy as a treatment modality.
- Apply knowledge of treatment planning to assist in the proper use of immobilization devices and accurate positioning of patient.
- Participate in a variety of radiation therapy techniques for planning and treatment.
- Perform competently in positioning and problem solving for the assigned techniques.
- Recognize the purpose and objective of CT planning for various sites.
- Perform quality control procedures on treatment and planning units as part of the quality assurance program in radiation therapy.
- Provide patients and family members with support and information within scope of knowledge and experience.
- Recognize the need to provide patients and family members with comfort and support where appropriate.
- Participate as an effective member of the radiation therapy team.
- Monitor their own learning needs in order to seek out further practice or assistance.
- Seek and respond professionally to feedback from others.
