Course Overview
This introductory communication course is designed to teach effective listening, writing, and speaking skills required for the media profession. The course covers the planning, organizing, and presenting of information, both orally and in writing. This course also aims to improve the learner’s ability to critically analyse and evaluate various kinds of arguments and scenarios commonly met with in their professional field. Exercises and activities to develop the learner’s ability to work effectively as a team member will also be integrated into seminars and assignments.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify purpose and audience for a variety of communication situations.
- Adapt communication to meet audiences’ needs, in both the profession and with the public.
- Use plain language principles to express information clearly, concisely, and logically.
- Use various rhetorical strategies to write and speak persuasively in response to situations that arise in the profession.
- Demonstrate effective presentation skills.
- Use conventional industry specific business formats to write:
- Creative Briefs
- Formal Proposals
- Persuasive Messages
- Negative-News Messages
