- International Fees
International fees are typically 3.12 times the domestic tuition. Exact cost will be calculated upon completion of registration.
Course Overview
The programmable logic controllers (PLCs) course will build on principles that were introduced in the Introduction to programmable logic controllers course (ACIM 5010). PLCs are most commonly encountered in a wide variety of automated control systems in manufacturing, conveying, transportation, and process control. Human-machine interfaces (touchscreen panels) as PLC system peripherals provide system status and operator control capabilities. Topics covered include installation, interfacing, communications, monitoring, troubleshooting and testing, and safety. Students will make power, signal, and communication connections for the PLC and HMI, and interpret and write programs for controlling manufacturing processes and displaying the status of automated systems.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Install, connect, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs in automated control systems.
- Create PLC ladder logic programs and design basic HMI touchscreen displays for control and alarms.
- Install and configure a barcode reader (Labvolt 5921-00).
- Set up Ethernet communication between a PLC, an HMI, a Variable Frequency Drive, and a local PC.
- Configure an interface between a PLC and a scrolling message display.
- Configure a DeviceNet network for remote input and output modules and devices.
