Course Overview
Build on peripheral nervous system knowledge with advanced study of pathophysiology of immediate relevance to the practice of electroneurophysiology with an emphasis on NCS and EMG, including general neuromuscular pathology, major disorders of movement and sensation, and electrophysiologic methods of assessment. Application of the neurological exam to diagnosis of a range of disorders will be an overarching theme. Discussion of related material encountered in the clinic, lab, or other courses is encouraged and active participation in learning will be expected. Evaluation of learning will include assignments and written exams.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the likely extent and nature of abnormalities of function, extent of disability/handicap, process of diagnosis, current understanding of pathophysiology, course, prognosis and treatment of a selected set of neuromuscular disorders.
- Apply the systematic diagnostic approach of neurology to clinical cases.
- Illustrate how diagnostic electroneurophysiology fits into the larger picture of diagnosis and care of people affected with neuromuscular disorders.
- Describe pathologies affecting muscle, neuromuscular junction and peripheral nerves, including responses to injury.
- Explain the pathophysiology and treatment of selected disorders of the PNS, muscle, and the NMJ, including radiculopathy, diabetes, polyneuropathies, nerve entrapment and trauma, mononeuropathies, infectious and demyelinating disorders.
