Course Overview
Covers the key elements of quality management in both manufacturing and service organizations. Topics include meaning of quality, TQM strategy, cost of quality, ISO 9000 and HACCP standards, voice of the customer, design for quality, vendor management systems, quality plans, SPC and control charts.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Describe the connection between quality management and competitive advantage
- Describe market conditions that favour quality management as a key strategy
- Analyze the planning and work elements for a typical quality management system.
- Apply Cost of Quality principles to assess financial benefit of quality management
- Use the connection between quality and risk to prepare control and improvement plans
- Describe the use of Voice of the Customer and Voice of the Market tools in gathering customer requirements
- Analyze the use of quality tools in the design process
- Develop the elements of a Vendor Management System
- Develop a quality plan
- Construct various control charts and calculate process capability
- Analyze the synergy and contrast of Lean, Theory of Constraints and Six Sigma
- Describe the uniqueness of service industries and the effects on quality management.
- Understand the benefits to an organization for pursuing a quality award.
