Course Overview
This course explores the popular news magazine format and its role in broadcasting and media. BCST 3315 addresses the importance of research, the use of sound, interviewing techniques and editing in documentary and extended feature programming. Students will keep a reflective journal of their progress as they work on creating a documentary or extended feature. This course also emphasizes the importance of critically listening to documentary work.

At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Plan and discuss pre-documentary production.
- Develop and execute questions for documentary and extended feature interviewing.
- Apply thorough research skills in documentary and extended feature preparation.
- Record and edit broadcast-quality audio for documentary format.
- Identify key components in documentary and extended feature scripts.
- Write a documentary script that integrates audio elements.
- Record broadcast-quality ambient sound for use in documentary production.
- Produce a documentary that illustrates appropriate audio elements.
- Analyze pre-recorded documentary material.
