Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:
- Apply the concepts of calorimetry to compute temperature changes, heat loss/gain in conduction and radiation processes, thermal expansion and thermal stress in technological contexts.
- Demonstrate how vibrations and wave concepts apply, predict modes of vibration in simple systems, and explain the use of sound waves in non-destructive testing.
- Verify Ohm's Law for DC current and voltage and compute resistivity.
- Analyze electric and magnetic forces and simple electric circuits.

- ** IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING ** This course will be delivered in a Hybrid format. In-person classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Burnaby Campus. Classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays will be delivered online via the Learning Hub (learn.bcit.ca). Online class on Stat Holiday Monday August 3rd. A computer with internet access is required. A detailed term schedule will be discussed during the first class. It is important that students sign into their myBCIT account and the Learning Hub PRIOR to the course start date to review any messages the instructor may have posted. The course fee is DUE UPON REGISTRATION and MUST BE PAID AT THAT TIME. Failure to pay upon registration will result in the student being dropped from the course without prior notice. Any student who withdraws from the course AFTER it has begun will not be allowed to re-register and re-join the learning activities this term.
