Course Overview
This course introduces the student to the medical speciality of cardiology. The course begins with a review of the normal cardiac anatomy and physiology, then introduces the various non-invasive and invasive diagnostic studies currently performed. Students are also exposed to a variety of common abnormal cardiovascular conditions, syndromes, and treatment strategies.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe cardiology and the professional role of the Cardiology Technologist.
- State significant dates, people and milestones in the history of Cardiology as it relates to Electrocardiography.
- Describe the normal cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Describe electrophysiology and hemodynamics at a basic level in the normal heart
- Describe various non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic studies currently performed at an introductory level
- Identify a variety of common abnormal cardiac conditions and syndromes and describe basic strategies of treatment.
- Describe cardiac pathophysiology at a basic level as if correlates to cardiac arrhythmia
- Describe, at an introductory level, appropriate patient assessments for various cardiac diseases.
- Correlate knowledge of basic cardiac pharmacology to various cardiac diseases
- Describe the importance of obtaining an adequate patient cardiac history
- Identify normal and abnormal heart and breathing sounds.
- Identify basic pacing modes and their corresponding ECGs
