Course Overview
This course is designed for those who would like to take on the role of a fire safety practitioner. Topics include fire codes and laws and how to apply fire safety concepts to the workplace and safe building construction. The principles of fire chemistry and how these relate to fire management are examined. Fire safety, detection, control, inspection and safety assessments are addressed. Participants will develop skills related to advising on the development or revision of Fire Safety Programs. The course then explores fire safety training and how to develop, design and deliver safety training. Finally, participants will examine how to conduct a post-fire investigation.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe key fire codes and laws.
- Apply relevant fire, building codes and legislative requirements to different contexts.
- Apply fire safety concepts to workplace safety and safe building construction.
- Explain the chemistry of fire.
- Describe the nature of flammable and combustible liquids and related safety measures.
- Apply the principles of fire chemistry to fire safety planning, inspection and management.
- Describe the characteristics of gas and chemical fire hazards and associated prevention and protection methods.
- Explain how to assess life safety and factors to take into account to ensure safety.
- Explain the elements and role of a fire safety management program, legal responsibilities and planning process.
- Use emergency plans and fire safety plans to support pre-fire planning.
- Describe how to of develop and maintain effective fire education programs.
- Explain the principles and procedures related to fire inspection.
- Explain how to plan and carry out a fire investigation.
