Course Overview
This course builds on the fundamentals taught in INTD 2300, Residential Design Studio A. An emphasis will be on understanding space and planning with architectural features including a variety of wall types, ceilings, doors, windows, fireplaces, and staircases. Students will plan a comprehensive residential space, working through the typical phases of a design project including design programming, concept development, product research, planning, and design development. Students will present their design solutions both visually and through oral communication. They will also demonstrate their 2D AutoCAD skills and use their freehand or SketchUp skills for any 3D components in their final submission.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze project requirements and produce accurate programs and adjacencies.
- Create design solutions that meet program requirements for a residential two-story space.
- Select appropriate materials and finishes considering factors such as sustainability, functionality, aesthetics, durability and the unique requirements of select spaces.
- Produce freehand plans and layouts to scale during the planning and design development process.
- Demonstrate an understanding of plumbing infrastructure in layouts for a residential space.
- Incorporate architectural features such as walls, doors, windows, staircases, and fireplaces to provide a functional solution following the elements and principles of design.
- Select appropriate furniture for suitable applications and incorporate it into a floor plan at the appropriate scale.
- Identify appropriate appliances, plumbing fixtures, and fittings and incorporate them into plans.
- Design ceiling treatments considering factors such as spatial proportions, lighting, finishes and overall relationship to planned space and concept.
- Incorporate accurate stair calculations and layouts.
- Explore and manipulate the volume of a residential space.
- Develop a sketchbook/process journal showing research, concept, and design development through sketching 2-D and 3-D.
- Create a full design concept package communicating design process for a comprehensive residential interior.
- Demonstrate skills in AutoCAD, 3-D representation and graphic presentation throughout the project.
