Covers the basic knowledge required to operate a programmable logic controller (PLC). Examines advantages of PLC's installation, hardware requirements, peripheral devices, system operation and hands-on programmable to relay replacement level using industry accepted software (Allen-Bradley RS Logix 5000).
TELC 0130 – Basic Motor Control and/or successful completion of Electrical Apprenticeship Level 2 or 3 or 4 program within the last 5 years. Electrical Journeyperson certificate, electrical engineering degree and/or equivalent practical hands-on experience are also acceptable.
This course was retired after the Winter 2018 term and is no longer offered through BCIT Part-time Studies.
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be familiar with the following:
Configure PLC Hardware and Program parameters on RSLogix5000 programming software.
Demonstrate the use of Communication Software RSLinx for Serial Cable communications.
Recognize connections and wiring of Discrete Input and Output Devices.
Configure and create Basic Ladder Logic programming for Discrete Inputs and Outputs.
