Electrical Trades Part-time Studies Course

BCIT is planning for a substantial return to on-campus activity for the fall 2021 term as informed by BC Public Health Officer guidelines. Refer to each course listing for details.

Course Details

Covers the Canadian Electrical Code requirements for the installation, alteration, repair or maintenance of Class 2 circuits limited to rated output of 100 volt amperes. This includes installation of 120 volt branch circuit wiring for the Class 2 power supplies. Course prepares students to write the Class Low Energy Systems (LO) certification exam from the Technical Safety BC (https://www.technicalsafetybc.ca).

Experience with Class 2 circuits.

  1. This course is designed for students who are planning to write a Class LO/SA Field Safety Representative (e.g. electrical contractor licence) examination from Technical Safety BC. For more information, such as exam eligibility and schedule, please contact Technical Safety BC office at https://www.technicalsafetybc.ca or 1-866-566-7233. Space is limited so early registration is highly recommended. Registration is processed on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis. Check this website frequently to see if someone de-registers if the course becomes full. In the case of course cancellation, students will be notified. To be successful, students must maintain at least 80% attendance record. Please make sure to provide your personal email upon registration. For inquiries, please email BCIT_Electrical@bcit.ca

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, the student will be able to:

  • Know and find needed Sections, Rules and Tables in the code and other regulations so that students may write the Class Low Energy Systems (LO) certification exam. Exam eligibility requirement can be found at the BC Safety Authority website: http://safetyauthority.ca/licences-certificates/exams-certificates/electrical

A statement of completion certificate will be issued to students who successfully complete the course.
